Beardyman must be off his nut; not satisfied with having won the UK beatboxing championships twice in a row, winning best MC at the Breakspoll awards, developing a mind-blowing live dance-music-production system which he uses live, smashing festival main-stages the world over, selling out both his last UK tour and his improvised comedy show at the Edinburgh Fringe 2 years r…unning, he is now re-writing the rule book on what a tour is! Touring, generally involves performing the same material to many different crowds, quite possibly recording the best one for posterity. Beardyman finds this concept unimaginably boring and instead has decided to make life very hard from himself. Intrigued? Read on.

On Beardyman’s sold-out “Open Sauce” tour he invited you, the people of earth, to chip in suggestions for his set-list prior to the gig and you did. You tweeted and facebooked him suggestions of unlikely genre’s to mash together, subjects for improvised songs, and classic tunes and songs to cover, which he did, using only his mouth and the “spaceship”, a live-production set-up, packed with looping equipment, sound manipulation tools and synthesizers. For his new “Where are you taking me” tour, you can take the show anywhere you choose, in real time! Twitter, Facebook, and text messages will be aggregated live, on the giant screen behind him for him to interact with live and off the cuff. Most of the shows will be streamed live online and people watching on rubbish computer-speakers at home will be able to interact and suggest too, but they won’t experience the raw awesomeness or feel the thundering bass shaking their pathetic souls loose. YOU can dictate where the show goes, but Beardy will drive you there in a roller-coaster made of amazing. What’s more, 6 months ago, in response to the constant barrage of demand, Beardy told his fans to start a facebook group if they wanted him to play their city. It was to be the start of his agent’s worst nightmare, and has resulted in huge gig bookings from Lithuania to Leicester. Another reason for the title of this groundbreaking tour. Book now or suffer a lingering emptiness for the rest of your meaningless life.

“Streetstyle is my sartorial bible” –
Chloe Sevigny in The New York Times.

Without the Hipsters, Teddy Boys, Beats, Rockabillies, Rude Boys, Mods, Surfers, Hippies, Punks, B-Boys, Ravers, Harajuku Girls – and all the other streetstyle originals – most of us would be left without anything to wear. But the sharp suits, leather jackets, jeans, kaftans, flares, DMs, slick locks and so forth are only the visible, tangible part of this legacy. Oozing through the clothes, hairstyles, make-up and accessories is an attitude. An attitude which perhaps more than any other set the tone of life in the second half of the twentieth century and which shows no sign of dissipating in the twenty-first.

‘The Street’ is both the stage upon which this drama unfolds and the bottom line metaphor for all that is presumed to be real and happening in our world today. In the past, ‘Western Culture’ was most at ease and most recognisable within grand interiors. Today, as high culture has given way to popular culture in the 20th century’s most significant social revolution, it is the litmus test of ‘street credibility’ rather than that of class, which is crucial. If it won’t cut it on the corner, forget it.

First published by Thames and Hudson in 1994, Streetstyle has been a revelation right from its launch at London’s legendary V&A Museum, where the world’s most respected style pioneers toasted the birth of the world’s flagship styletribe tome. Born in London but successful worldwide, Streetstyle has now been distributed internationally, translated into 3 languages, sold over 30,000 copies and, as a massively popular collector’s item, the 1st edition is now selling for upwards of £100 a copy online.

This fully updated edition will feature nearly 100 extra pages with a four page bound insert, 5 new chapters, including over 250 compelling images, all packed into 224 devilishly stylish pages.

The Streetstyle exhibition and book launch will feature images from the book as well as showcasing a series of talks and discussions with Ted and guests about the past, present and future of Street Style and subcultural fashion.

PYMCA has become renowned for its street culture exhibitions, showcasing images from their extensive archive. Having already celebrated subcultures of Rave and Skinheads, Hip Hop and Taboo club scenes, Their most recent exhibition Unordinary People was held at London’s legendary Royal Albert Hall and was the venue’s most popular exhibition of 2009.

We’ve been proud to work with Oxfam to help them develop this years campaigning theme at festivals which they take to 15 of the UK’s best festivals. The brief was to create something fun that everyone will want to be involved in, that’s simple, cheap and ethical that asks people to call for a fairer deal for people affected by poverty at the G8 conference in Mexico. Learn more about it on the Oxfam site, here.

Take a look at the pictures below to see our idea, in the flesh. If you’re attending Glastonbury, get ready to be ‘Fair deal’d’.
